Frequently asked questions
• LANGUAGE •

While Spanish is the official language, don’t worry if you don’t speak it fluently! Many people in the tourist areas speak basic English. However, it’s always a good idea to learn a few simple phrases like “Hola” (Hello), “Gracias” (Thank you), and “¿Cuánto cuesta?” (How much does it cost?) to make your experience even better.
• COMMUNICATION WITH HOTELS •
In Argentina, WhatsApp is widely used as a primary mode of communication. If you are unable to reach the hotel by phone, we recommend sending a message via WhatsApp. To do so, please ensure you include the country code (+54) followed by the regional code and the phone number. For example, the correct format would be: +54 9 261 5756171.
• CELL PHONE SERVICE AND WIFI •
Most hotels and restaurants in Mendoza offer free WiFi, but service can sometimes be spotty in more remote areas, especially in the vineyards. If you plan to use your phone extensively, you may want to consider getting a local SIM card or an international plan to ensure you stay connected.
• DRINKING WATER •
Tap water in Mendoza is generally safe to drink. However, if you’re staying in more rural areas, it’s always a good idea to double-check with your hotel or restaurant. Bottled water is readily available everywhere, just in case you prefer it.
• DRESSING FOR THE WEATHER •
Mendoza has a semi-arid climate, so you can expect warm days and cooler evenings, especially around our wedding. During the day, temperatures can reach 80-90°F (27-32°C), but the evenings might cool down quite a bit. Be sure to bring layers so you stay comfortable!
• DRESSING FOR WINERY TOURS •
If you plan to visit any wineries during your stay, be sure to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes for walking around the vineyards. The terrain can sometimes be uneven, and you’ll want to be comfortable as you explore. And don’t forget your sunglasses and sunscreen for those sunny days!
• CULTURAL NORMS AND GREETINGS •
In Argentina, it’s common to greet people with a kiss on the cheek—even when meeting for the first time! Don’t be surprised or feel awkward; it’s just a friendly gesture . Also, meals are usually served later, around 9 or 10 p.m., so get ready for a late-night dining experience!
• DRINKING WINE •
As you’re in one of the best wine regions in the world, be sure to enjoy the local wines! If you’re not familiar with Argentine wine, ask for a Malbec—this red wine is one of Mendoza’s specialties. It’s also common to enjoy a glass of wine with lunch or dinner, so feel free to indulge in the local wine culture!
• LOCAL CUISINE AND FOOD ALLERGIES •
Mendoza is known for its incredible food, especially the asado (Argentinian barbecue) and amazing wines. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, please let us know or inform the restaurant/hotel staff directly—they’ll be happy to accommodate you. Common allergens here include gluten, dairy, and nuts, so please keep that in mind if you have specific dietary needs.
• ELECTRICAL OUTLETS •
Just a heads-up, Argentina uses Type C and Type I electrical outlets, with a standard voltage of 220V and a frequency of 50Hz. If your devices use a different plug or voltage, be sure to bring a universal adapter and possibly a voltage converter.
• TIME ZONE •
Mendoza is on Argentina Time (ART), which is UTC -3 hours, so please keep that in mind when coordinating with friends and family from other time zones!
• CURRENCY •
The currency in Argentina is the Argentine peso (ARS).
If paying in CASH, you should look at the “Dólar Blue” exchange rate, which is approximately 1 USD = 1200 ARS, though it may vary.
If paying with CARD, you should look at the “Dólar MEP” exchange rate, which is approximately 1 USD = 1200 ARS, though it may vary.

• PAYING •
In Mendoza, most places accept credit cards, so you don’t need to carry large amounts of cash anymore. However, it’s recommended to have a good amount of Argentine pesos on hand for tips and places that don´t accept credit cards.
Sales tax in Argentina is typically included in prices, but if you're shopping, keep in mind that some stores may offer discounts for paying in cash. Be sure to ask if you want to take advantage of these offers!
You can exchange money at hotels, or at Western Union locations, but always check on the exchange rate link above. Worst case scenario you can always pay in cash in dollars and they´ll likely accept them and give you change in pesos.
• PAYING FOR YOUR HOTEL •
When booking your hotel, please ensure you present your passport and pay with a foreign credit card to be exempt from the 21% VAT (Value Added Tax). This exemption applies exclusively to international guests. For Argentine residents, the 21% VAT will be added to the cost of the stay.
• TIPPING •
Tipping in Mendoza is typically around 10%. It's preferred to leave the tip in cash, although some places may accept tips via card. If paying by card, the waitstaff will usually bring the card machine to your table but do not hand over your credit card.
• SAFETY •
Argentina is generally a safe place, but it’s important to take precautions. Exercise caution by not leaving personal belongings unattended, whether it's a bag on a chair or valuables in your car. It’s also advisable to walk in groups, especially in touristy areas. Avoid areas farther from the tourist zones for safety reasons. Petty theft is the most common type of crime that one would run into.
